Welcome!

Dear Movers and Makers,

Here you are, in this moment, reading these words. In your body that is touching things that are touching things that make up your environment. You are coming from somewhere, on your way to somewhere else. Those places are on the same ground and under the same sky as me and every other person who is currently, ever has been, and ever will be on this planet.

Here I am, in this moment, writing these words. Surrounded by plants, a couple of dogs, computer monitors, stacks of notebooks and unopened mail, tea cups, and a water bottle. I’m on my way from teaching a lesson that is both my first of the day and my last of the week. I’m on the same ground and under the same sky as you and every other person who is currently, ever has been, and ever will be on this planet.

This moment I’m in happened in your past. As I write, you are somewhere in the world. I have no idea where you are, and you have no idea that this writing is coming or that it is for you to have the experience you’re having right now.

This moment you are in is happening in my present future. As you read, I am somewhere. You have no idea where I am, and I have no idea that you’re reading this, but wherever I am, know that I am thrilled that you are here, and that we are both together and separate–in multiple pasts, presents, and futures simultaneously.

I love being with people in the spaces between, so I made this for you.

Welcome to SOMA’s Liminal Space: A place for you to connect to the spaces between imagination and reality, thought and action, inspiration and creation, inhale and exhale, stimulus and response, habit and choice, ease and effort, mind and body, the known and the unknown.

This space will house a podcast, blog, and supplemental videos. The podcast is called Semi-supine and offers a series of guided experiments inspired by principles of the Alexander Technique. It’s designed for you to experience the intrinsic power of your body and to cultivate presence, support, and ease in your whole self. The blog will explore the Alexander Technique, moving, making, and the spaces between.

Once again, welcome! And thanks for trusting me with your attention.

You’re the best,

Joe
